Catalan Wine Tasting
Tasting experience in El Born (Ciutat Vella – Old Town), Barcelona
Join us for a boutique wine tasting in the heart of Barcelona’s historic centre. This early evening experience is the perfect way to begin your night in the city—whether you’re heading out for dinner afterwards or joining one of our evening tapas tours.
Hosted by local sommelier Sandra and boutique wine shop owner Joan, this 90-minute tasting is a warm, relaxed dive into the fascinating world of Catalan wines. You’ll sample four distinctive Spanish wines—each expertly selected to showcase the region’s range and richness—paired with a curated selection of artisanal cheeses.
Each glass comes with a story—about the variety, the region, and why it matters—and is paired with top-quality Spanish cheeses, along with crackers and water to cleanse your palate. And if you’re feeling brave, you’ll even get the chance to try drinking from a porró (a traditional Catalan wine pitcher)!
Whether you’re a wine aficionado or just curious to discover the wines of Catalonia, this is a fun, relaxed way to connect with local culture and indulge your tastebuds.
Your evening begins with a brief introduction to Barcelona’s wine culture, covering centuries of tradition that have shaped the region’s winemaking.
Then, after a short stroll through the Gothic Quarter, we arrive at a boutique wine shop nestled in El Born — a neighborhood known for its rich history and vibrant atmosphere. Step inside a cozy tasting room set within a wine bar whose walls have more than 300 years of history. With its vaulted Catalan ceilings and warm, inviting ambiance, the space offers a unique mix of old-world charm and modern Barcelona cool. Here, Joan, the passionate owner, welcomes us and ensures a memorable experience with his extensive knowledge and lively personality.
You’ll sample four exceptional Catalan wines, exclusive selections are rarely found elsewhere:
- Aged Cava from Penedès – a refined, 30-month-aged sparkling wine
- White Cariñena from Empordà – a rare, small-batch vintage with only 900 bottles produced annually
- Award-winning Red from Priorat – a bold and complex blend, showcasing one of Spain’s most prestigious wine regions
- Vermouth or Dessert Wine – a final touch of tradition, based on your preference
You can accompany your wine with three artisanal Spanish cheeses, complemented by crackers and water to cleanse the palate. And for those feeling adventurous, there’s a chance to drink from the porró, a traditional Catalan wine pitcher—a fun and unique experience!
After the tasting, if you’d like to continue enjoying Barcelona’s best wines, extra glasses are available for just 5€ each, and you’ll have the opportunity to purchase bottles to take home. Sandra and Joan are happy to recommend fantastic nearby wine bars and restaurants to explore.
