Barcelona Tapas Tour FAQs

Our tapas tours are typically run with 6 guests or fewer. During our peak season we run a limited number of tours of up to 7 or 8 guests. Primarily we do this to cater for lone travellers who have few opportunities to enjoy Barcelona’s culinary tour scene otherwise.

If you prefer not to be joined by others, our private tours are available upon request – get in touch if you would like to create a private tour.

A tour is a wonderful way to introduce yourself to the city and the region, so we suggest including it at the beginning of your trip.

Tickets for all tours must be purchased in advance. Space is highly limited due to the size of the establishments we will be visiting. To purchase tickets, please go to our bookings page and choose a date that works for you.

Cash is not accepted.

Our tapas tours are intended for adults and typically last for 3 hours, with periods of 10-15 mins walking between restaurants and some standing. They are typically not very enjoyable for children. We ask that parents, who know their children best, use their own judgment when deeming the tour appropriate for their children.

If you are coming to Barcelona with young children, we would encourage you to request a private tour where your family can be better accommodated without compromising the experience of other guests. On our open small, group tours, many families have said the lunchtime tapas tour has worked better than an evening tour.

For non-private tours, parents with infants and toddlers up to the age of 2 need not purchase a ticket for them. However, you will need to inform us at the time of booking if you will have an infant/small child with you so that space can be made accordingly. This is especially important for the wine excursion so that the correct vehicle can be arranged. Please also be aware that pushchairs/strollers can be cumbersome on the small streets and there’s often no room for them in the restaurants, so please use carriers when possible (if your stroller cannot be folded into a very small space please do not bring it).

In general, if you are bringing small children with, please let us know well in advance so that we can work with you to make it as comfortable and easy for you and your little ones.

Diners aged 2 and up do require a full price ticket to attend; this is not only to cover the cost of food and drink consumed but also to account for an occupied space in what are very small group experiences.

Full refunds are available up to 48 hours prior to the start of tapas tours, less the small credit card handling fee.

If your cancellation means you no longer quality for any group discount (for example, if you have 4 tickets and need to cancel 2) the refunded amount will also account for the difference in price for the remaining tickets.

When requesting a partial refund for a Group Discount booking, please be aware that if fewer than 4 guests remain on the booking the amount refunded will reflect the correct Standard ticket price for those still attending.

Due to our logistics and the arrangements we have with the venues we visit on our tours, we are unable to offer refunds on bookings made fewer than 48 hours before a tour begins, nor can we generally rebook for another date after the 48-hour cut off has passed. Where a late request to rebook can be honoured there is a rebooking fee of min. 30€ per person; however, if we cannot rebook to a suitable date with availability, the original booking will stand and if not attended will count as a last-minute cancellation (after the 48-hours prior to the tour start time cut-off point) or a no-show and therefore not be eligible for a refund.

Please note that private tours are non-refundable.

We very rarely have cancellations. But feel free to contact us if you’d like us to put your name on a waiting list for a particular tour.

We open tours for single-ticket bookings once we have booked at least two guests.

We can generally accommodate requests to change to a different date, where spaces remain available, with sufficient advance notice.

Requests to change dates within 48 hours of the booked tour time are generally not possible; where these requests can be honoured there is a rebooking fee of approximately 30€ per person. Yes, absolutely! Our gift cards make a wonderful present! You can specify the amount to be given, so take a look at the different tours and experiences to determine how much you’d like to give.

Just remember that gift cards are valid for two years from the date of purchase and unused gift cards will not be refunded nor may be redeemed beyond their period of validity.

If you are unwell you should not attend the tour. Out of consideration for the other guests, as well as our guides and restaurant partners, this is really important to us. In the event you cannot attend events you have booked due to illness you should be able to reclaim the costs through your travel insurance. (Please also see the cancellation policy elsewhere on this page to find out more about potentially requesting a late request rebooking.)

While our food tours are not wine-tasting tours, wine is delicious and fun, and so, will be provided at some establishments for tasting, as will other delicious and fun beverages, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic.

Delicious foods!

Many of the establishments we will be visiting make fresh and different dishes daily, so it is hard to provide an exact list.

However, we can guarantee at least some of the following: fine cheeses and wines, olives and traditional Catalan and Spanish tapas, a few modern Catalan-international fusions, sweet nothings (sometimes whispered) and much more!

Yes! Drinks are included on the tour. Both alcoholic and non-alcoholic options are available.

Yes and no.

The Barcelona Taste visits a variety of establishments, most of which provide vegetarian options.

If you are a strict vegetarian, we cannot guarantee that the places we visit are not, for example, cooking with animal fat, though olive oil is far more typical.

There are always vegetarian options, but some days there are fewer options than on other days.

That said, we have had many vegetarians on our tours in the past and they have said they thoroughly enjoyed the experience!

We do our best to accommodate all food preferences and diets (however please note that our standard tours are not suitable for vegan or coeliac diners). And, to be honest, Spain is finally figuring out about good vegetarian food, so the options are just getting better and better.

Mmm… In fact, if you join a tour, we’d be happy to provide you with a few of our favorite vegetarian restaurants around the city!

As the establishments we are visiting are extremely small, we are not able to completely guarantee accommodation for all food allergies.

However, please let us know what your restrictions are as we will do our utmost to provide alternatives where available. (Please note, though, that our standard tours are not suitable for vegan or coeliac diners.)

We have planned the tours so that, at the end of the approx. 3 hours, most guests leave feeling comfortably full.

We’ve had many guests in the past that wish to avoid gluten who have enjoyed our tours very much. It’s true that there are fewer options to eat (bread and breaded meat and fish are very present in Spanish cuisine) but the guide always makes sure everyone has enough dishes to taste. However, and this is really important, even though we communicate all allergies and intolerances to our restaurant partners we cannot guarantee there won’t be any cross contamination in the kitchens of the restaurants you’ll visit on the tour. Therefore, it really depends on how serious your intolerance is. Most of our guests have felt safe by just taking a pill, whilst for others they may not prefer to take any risk – this is something that only you can assess.

Most of the establishments dispose of a restroom.

Tours will occur in rain or shine. Please check the weather conditions the day of your tour and dress appropriately. Luckily, it doesn’t rain very often here.

Of course! We highly recommend bringing a camera and taking photos throughout the tour.

However, please remember we will be visiting small local restaurants, so please respect the owners and other tables when taking your pictures. Also, remember that Barcelona is known for pickpockets. Keep your camera on a strong strap, preferably one across your chest to avoid being an “easy-target.”

We are not responsible for any items stolen during the course of the trip. In the unfortunate event that something of yours is stolen, we will provide you with the necessary information on where to report the stolen item. However, we cannot stop the tour to accommodate one individual. Nor can we offer a refund should anyone decide to leave the tour. We will do our best to keep everyone and their things safe, but in the end, it is up to you to take precautions and to use common sense on our tours.

Please don’t be late! We do not answer our phones while we are running tours, as our full attention is on our guests. Guides will need to begin the tour at the stated start time with those present; they have no choice but to consider the other guests and the time sensitive reservations we have made with our venues.

All tours are available in English or Spanish. If you require a tour in any other language, please get in touch as we have a wide variety of very knowledgeable guides who might be able to offer you a private tour!

But also, throughout the tour, your guide will share Barcelona urban legends, facts, a bit of culinary insight and fun tales of the food and spaces you taste and see.

We are incredibly careful to choose only the best guides in the city to join The Barcelona Tase, and they work extremely hard. Tips/gratuities are certainly welcome and greatly appreciated!

The Gothic Quarter tour ends at the starting point. Our other tours end at different points, but please be assured that your guide will never leave you until he/she is certain you know where you are and how to get to where you want to be from there.

As we are on a tight eating schedule, we ask that you refrain from shopping during the tour.

Our tours range from 2-3.5 hours, depending on the route you choose. We walk at a very relaxed pace between establishments; typically this is between 10-15 minutes maximum between locations.

For the safety, security and enjoyment of our guests, and to protect and respect our guides and restaurant partners, anyone that arrives for a tour obviously intoxicated will be asked to leave and not issued with a refund. We have a duty of care to our colleagues and guests, but additionally we cannot tour with excessively intoxicated individuals as this breaches both our code of conduct and insurance policy. Do not attend our tour if you are intoxicated.

Do not bring you luggage to the tapas tour – the restaurants we visit are small and there isn’t space to store them. Additionally, we will be walking between venues and occasionally this will be via routes that are not suitable for large bags or suitcases.
